Client Issue:

A long-term sustainability target was developed, and a technical strategy designed. Competing demands and different implications on the functions are blocking the seamless realization of the targets and vision.


Project Objective:

Based on a sustainability vision & R&D sustainability strategy an, aligned cross-function & cross-brand sustainability program needs to be designed and the buy-in of the organizational units secured. 


Our Approach:

  • A cross-functional and brand-agnostic program was set up to create a shared understanding and design an aligned way forward
  • The program was split into two in-person workshop series over the span of five months, with a total 10 companywide workshops and 400 participants:
    • Creation of a function & brand-specific understanding of the upcoming demands
    • Design of a cross-functional alignment and concrete roadmaps for the different product categories & brands
  • Impulse presentations were designed to ensure a sense of urgency and motivation


Results:

  • A fundamental understanding within each function of the company for the upcoming sustainability demands and their implications was created
  • Function-specific action plans with concrete ownerships designed
  • A cross-functional alignment and the creation of shared targets and roadmaps ensures the feasible realization of the targets
  • The workshop and co-design approach enabled a shared sense of ownership and set the basis for a companywide transformation
  • An internal sustainability compass was created to enable sustainable product developments companywide

In order to ensure the success of a companywide sustainability transformation, the R&D department needs to design a concrete & feasible way forward to enable the company wide sustainability vision.


Project Objective:

Based on a high level and long-term CO2 target, a concrete strategy incl. focus fields, initiative & a roadmap needs to be developed. In addition, feasible sustainability ambitions for the overall company  are needed.


Our Approach:

Over the duration of 9 months, the project was split into five sprints to structure the project into digestible parts and accelerated the project progress through the efficient involvement of the client?s resources
Core Team and Multiplier workshops as separate iterative phases within each sprint: Alignment and consolidation workshops to generate outcomes, followed by sessions to integrate the expertise of a wider stakeholder group and obtain their buy-in
Dedicated decision maker sessions ensured continuous approval stages throughout the project

Counselling and challenging of results through external perspective and sustainability expertise


Results:

  • As-Is Analysis: Mapping of running projects, consolidation of readiness criteria, heatmaps and status evaluation of overall impact areas, competitor benchmarking

The objective was to facilitate the successful introduction of an eco-label for the client?s new product line, adhering to ISO standards. We also aimed to leverage this initiative to advance the client?s  internal sustainability agenda and engage new capacities towards their corporate sustainability goals.


Our Approach:

  • Define ecological product criteria required for third-party eco-certification
  • Guide and assist the relevant functions in understanding the criteria and collecting necessary data
  • Re-evaluate formulated criteria after initial iteration and finalize data collection process in preparation for third-party eco-certification involvement
  • Development of an eco-certification assessment tool in excel to enable an efficient evaluation of existing products and future innovations


Results:

  • Delivered a comprehensive eco-criteria list for the considered product line, specifically adapted to the current life cycle processes
  • Manufacturer is prepared to start the third-party involvement for an eco-certification according to ISO14024/25
